Below is only work I solely concepted, art-directed, designed and wrote. All but three headlines and two script collaborations, to be fair. Art direction, design and copy all rolled into one and all rolled by one guy. These concept pieces represent ideas spread across all the usual platforms to ensure quick arrival at their doomed fate. I would have included some of the many TV spots I've worked on but as it turns out, I'm a piss-poor curator of TV spots in proper file formats. The good news — nobody makes TV spots anymore.
All the work here was produced or presented. No spec. Pretty recent stuff representing a snapshot of my last decade in an agency. Mostly work I like, work I think is good, if not somewhat decent. I've been at this a long time yet somehow feel as excited (or confused) as ever to still prove something, discover new things, get challenged and maintain some relevancy and curiosity. And maybe even get something produced within percentages of its intent. All while keeping my soul uncrushed — my greatest achievement.
I have not climbed Everest. Or traversed all 4 or 5 corners of the globe. Sadly, I have never lived in a mission commune tending to yaks. I don't have an Instagram page dedicated to pics of me eating street food in Jakarta. I don't have verbose case sudies of experiencial ideas targeted at 15-30 people whom actually experienced said experiencial experiences. I'm not super cool that way. But I have committed quite intensely to ongoing pursuits rather than the one offs. I have played in working bands. I'm a jazz/funk drummer and pretty decent jazz/funk guitar player. I've written a lot of music and recorded many original song demos I'd be happy to turn you on to. Somebody should hear them. I've written a novel and a couple feature-length screenplays. Email me if you'd like to read the novel while I'm figuring out how to get it out there, wherever there is. I play tennis and hockey. I was a D1 college soccer player and spanned 40 years playing in total. I've coached soccer and have been a band leader. Sensitive people those athletes and musicians. I'm an Airstream owner, which is shorthand for I enjoy beer. I have a very spirited Cattledog who I'm convinced is really a Dingo. She reminds me the greatness of any one being far outshadows their struggles. Her capacity for loving us is humbling. Sully's younger Mountain Cur sister worships her but takes none of her ample shit. They have dog language and symbolic gesturing of which I am excluded. They make it work.
I'm grateful for the arts. Often ridiculous in its introspection but we need that to counter all things stale and stiff. I once saw a stage play of a dude shaving his head and beard followed by 45 minutes of Q&A. There was no second performance — at least for several months. I enjoy good food. In fact, I eat food everyday. Bad beer should not be tolerated. Whiskey should be honored. I'm inspired by all the wonderful and mystical arts, from sword swallowing to needlepoint. And stuff not as sharp. Thanks for all the great work done by so many in our industry. It makes me think I want to be in advertising when I grow up. I secretly wish I made films.
